The cross overlooking the Gwaun Valley is a meaningful place for many who visit Ffald y Brenin. The weather in Wales can turn on a dime, and the cross – perched high on a hill – is exposed to the full force of whatever comes. There is a beautiful parallel here: Jesus was exposed for our sin. He took the full force of the world’s chaos. For this reason, the cross, an instrument that the Romans used for death, is seen by Christians as a way to life.

The High Cross is a place to linger, a place to lament, a place to repent, a place to surrender, and a place to thank God. Imagine yourself in the scene below. Where would you position yourself? Sitting, kneeling, standing at a distance? Is there a question, a worry, or a thought you’d want to bring to the cross?
