2026 is our 41st year, and we see it as year one of the #Next40. We’ve felt led to pursue a timely opportunity that we believe will serve God’s vision for Ffald y Brenin far into the future: to purchase the farm next door, Penlan Uchaf. Thanks to the generosity that has poured in over recent months, we’re delighted to say that we’ve just reached our fundraising target of £750,000. Praise God! Here’s an update:

Why is Ffald y Brenin purchasing the farm next door?
There are two primary reasons: protection and expansion. We’re in need of further protecting the sacred environment that God has cultivated during the last forty years. And we believe that God is calling us to expand our territory, in both land and ministry, as we move into our next forty years—a vision that we call #Next40. Thanks to the generosity of many in recent months, we’re delighted to have just reached our fundraising goal of £750,000 to make the purchase and are now entering Phase 2 of making this dream come alive.
What do we mean by protection?
The current physical boundaries of Ffald y Brenin run along either national park land or the neighbouring farm, Penlan Uchaf. The boundary along the national park is protected, but the boundary along Penlan Uchaf is exposed.
Until we made an offer, the farm was on the market for sale. We would have no control over who could buy it. And long-term, we would have limited control over what any new owners might do with the land. So we are purchasing Penlan Uchaf to provide a buffer to our sacred space.
Additionally, sometimes we host a mix of guests seeking a very quiet retreat, as well as small groups that bring wonderful excitement and energy. Having additional facilities will help protect the quiet space
What do we mean by expansion?
The vision for expansion comes with both immediate and long-term needs:
Immediate: We have long wanted to increase our accommodation and to facilitate more activities, but we are constrained by the limitations of our site. We had even acquired planning permission and developed preliminary plans to extend the Farmhouse, but were naturally reluctant to increase the busyness of our peaceful retreat centre. When we complete the purchase of Penlan Uchaf, we will immediately gain more indoor capacity, as well as barns for events and training, without disturbing the core sanctuary of Ffald y Brenin.
Long-Term: This involves protecting the core experience of Ffald y Brenin while also growing into new areas. These include training around the contemplative, immersive life and developing income-generating enterprises that are grounded in a rhythm with God. Penlan Uchaf is a key part of this vision.
